Privacy Policy for GuideSpace – Guided Selling By Core/Commerce

GuideSpace (the “App”) provides merchants using Shopify with interactive guided selling tools to help customers understand product options and make confident purchase decisions. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information when merchants install or use our App. We have prepared this policy to comply with Shopify’s privacy requirements for app developers and applicable data protection laws.

Information We Collect

Shopify Account Information

  • Store Data: When you install our App, we use Shopify’s APIs to access certain information from your Shopify store. This may include your shop’s domain, name, email, and other basic profile details required to operate the App.
  • Product Data: We may retrieve product and variant information (such as product names, descriptions, and variant IDs) from your Shopify store as needed to display and manage interactive guides and assists.
  • Configuration Data: We collect any configuration settings or preferences you provide in the App dashboard, and any additional merchant details (such as billing and contact information) that you enter.

Merchant-Provided Information

  • Account Contact: When you sign up, you provide us with contact information (such as your name and email address) so we can communicate with you and provide support.
  • Support Requests: If you contact our support team, we collect and store the information you provide (which may include your email, store ID, and details about your issue).

Store Visitor Information

To provide our guided selling and analytics features, the App collects certain information about visitors to your store’s product pages:

- Interaction Data: We track how visitors interact with our product guides and assist panels (for example, which options they click and where they drop off) to generate conversion analytics and improve the shopping experience.

- Usage Data: We log general data about how visitors use your store (such as page views, product page visits, and time on page) to measure engagement and performance of our features.

- Device/Browser Information: We collect non-personal information about the visitor’s device and browser (like browser type, operating system, and screen resolution) via cookies or similar technologies. This helps ensure our guides function properly on different devices.

- Cookies and Tracking: We use cookies and similar tracking technologies on the storefront to enable interactive features and to collect usage analytics. Cookies may store session information and preferences; see the Cookies section below for details.

Important: We do not collect sensitive personal data (such as payment card information) from store visitors. We only collect information necessary to provide and improve our App.

How We Use Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

- Provide and Improve the App: We use your Shopify store data and visitor interaction data to deliver our guided selling features, analytics dashboards, and personalized experiences. For example, product and variant data build the interactive product guides, and visitor data powers our “Decision Insights” reports.

- Communication: We use your contact information to send account-related communications, respond to support requests, and notify you of updates or new features. With your consent, we may send promotional emails or newsletters, but you may opt out at any time.

- Analytics and Research: We aggregate usage data to analyze app performance and improve our features. This data is anonymized so it cannot identify individual merchants or customers.

- Legal Compliance: We use information as required to comply with legal obligations and to enforce our terms (for example, responding to lawful requests from authorities).

- Prevent Abuse: We may use data to detect and prevent fraudulent or abusive activity, protecting the security of the App and our users.

We do not use information for any purposes unrelated to providing our App unless we have obtained your consent. We do not share or sell personal data to advertisers or unauthorized third parties.

Sharing and Disclosure of Information

  • No Selling of Data: We do not sell or rent personal information to anyone. We do not share merchant or customer data with third parties for their marketing purposes.
  • Service Providers: We may share information with trusted third-party service providers who perform services on our behalf (such as hosting, analytics, and email delivery). These providers are contractually obligated to keep data confidential and use it only to provide services to us.
  • Shopify: When you install our App, certain data is shared with Shopify as necessary to operate the integration. Please refer to Shopify’s Privacy Policy for details on how Shopify processes data.
  • Compliance with Laws: We may disclose data if required by law or regulation (for example, in response to a subpoena or court order). We will only share what is legally necessary.
  • Business Transfers: If GuideSpace is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, we may transfer information to the new owner, provided the new owner agrees to protect the information under this Privacy Policy.
  • Aggregate/Anonymized Data: We may share aggregated or anonymized data (for example, general usage trends) that cannot identify any individual with the public or partners for analytics and improvement purposes.

Data Retention

We retain the information we collect for as long as needed to provide the App and as permitted or required by law:

- Merchants: We keep your account data and merchant-provided information while your account is active, and for a reasonable period afterward (typically up to 1 year after account deletion) unless longer retention is required by law.

- Store Data: We retain the Shopify data (products, configuration, usage) while your account is active. If you uninstall the App or request deletion, we will delete or anonymize your data unless needed for legal reasons.

- Analytics Data: We retain individual visitor interaction logs for up to 3 months. We keep aggregated analytics data indefinitely for improving our service.

- Support Data: We keep records of support communications (such as emails or tickets) for internal reference (typically up to 1 year) and to improve our support.

After these retention periods, we securely delete or anonymize the data.

Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to provide core functionality and to collect analytics. Typical cookies we use include:

- Session Cookies: to maintain session state when merchants log in to our App.

- Preference Cookies: to remember settings or preferences (like dashboard options).

- Analytics Cookies: to track visitor interactions with the guides (such as which product options were clicked).

These cookies do not contain sensitive personal data. You can control cookie settings through your browser; however, disabling cookies may impact the functionality of our App and the guides on your store’s front-end. For more information about cookies, see All About Cookies.

Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your data: - We use industry-standard security protocols (such as TLS encryption) to transmit data securely. - Our servers and databases are protected by firewalls, encryption, and strict access controls. - Access to your personal data is limited to authorized personnel who need it to perform their job. - We regularly review our security practices and update them as needed.

However, no system can guarantee 100% security. We cannot ensure or warrant the absolute security of any information you transmit to us.

International Data Transfers

GuideSpace is headquartered in the United States. We use servers and service providers globally, so your data may be transferred to and stored in locations outside your country (for example, the United States or other regions). Where required by law, we implement standard contractual clauses or other safeguards for transfers of personal data from the European Economic Area (EEA) or other regions. By using the App, you consent to such transfers.

Your Rights and Choices

  • Merchants (Shop Owners): Under the GDPR (for European merchants) you have the right to access, update, export, or delete the personal data we hold about you. Under the CCPA/CPRA (for California residents), you have the right to request information about the categories of personal data collected, the purpose of collection, and to request deletion of your personal information. To exercise these rights, please contact us using the information below. We will respond in accordance with applicable law. If you are an EU resident and are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with a data protection authority.
  • Customers (Store Visitors): We do not collect personal information directly from store visitors beyond what is needed for our app’s functionality. The data we collect (such as interaction data) is used solely for analytics and is not associated with identified individuals. If a store visitor’s personal data (for example, through Shopify’s Customer API) is processed via our App, that data is controlled by the merchant (store owner). Visitors seeking access or corrections to their personal data should contact the merchant (store owner) directly. We will cooperate with the merchant to fulfill any valid data requests as required by law.
  • Cookies and Tracking: Visitors can disable non-essential cookies through their browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect certain features of our guides.
  • California “Do Not Sell” Rights: GuideSpace does not sell personal information as defined by California law. Therefore, we do not provide a “Do Not Sell My Personal Information” link. California consumers may still have rights to request disclosures or deletion of personal information under the CCPA/CPRA; to make such a request, please contact us.
  • Marketing Communications: If you have consented to receive marketing emails from us, you can unsubscribe at any time via the link in those emails or by contacting us.

Children’s Privacy

Our App and website are not intended for children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn that we have collected the personal data of a child under the age limit without appropriate consent, we will delete it promptly.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When changes occur, we will update the “Last updated” date above. We encourage you to review this policy periodically to stay informed about how we handle data.
